A switchboard upgrade replaces old fuses with circuit breakers and RCD safety switches, which cut the power in about 30 milliseconds if a fault or electric shock occurs.
Signs your switchboard needs upgrading
- Ceramic fuses with fuse wire instead of switches
- No safety switches (RCDs), or only one for the whole house
- Breakers that trip when you run the kettle and microwave together
- Scorch marks, a burning smell or a warm board
- You're adding aircon, an induction cooktop, an EV charger, solar or a renovation
What the upgrade involves
We inspect the board and circuits, then quote a fixed price. On the day we isolate the supply, replace the board, fit breakers and safety switches to each circuit group, label everything, and test every circuit before restoring power. You get a compliance certificate when we're done.
What it costs
The price depends on the number of circuits, the condition of the existing wiring, and whether the meter panel needs work too.
Text Jimmy a photo of your switchboard and he can usually price it over the phone.

How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?
If your board has ceramic fuses, no safety switches, scorch marks, or breakers that trip regularly, it is due for an upgrade. Homes built before the 1990s commonly fall into this group.
How long does a switchboard upgrade take?
Most homes take TODO(client): 4–6 hours. Power is off for part of that time, and we tell you beforehand when.
Do I need a switchboard upgrade to add aircon, induction or an EV charger?
Often, yes. Large new loads usually need a dedicated circuit and spare capacity on the board. We check this as part of the quote.
